Relocating and Reimagining Farmers of Salem’s Workplace
Farmers of Salem approached Formcraft to relocate their Wilmington office and create a dynamic, engaging, and newly employee-focused space. The home and business insurance company wanted to invest in a forward-thinking strategy to support company culture, foster organizational engagement, and attract new talent. Formcraft was engaged to design and build 20,000 square feet of professional, collaborative, welcoming workspace.
Formcraft reimagined the Farmers environment into an immersive brand experience. Color, texture, shape, and tone are used to create a look and feel distinct to the company and its culture. The space is sophisticated, modern, earthy, and energetic; it’s professional yet friendly. A sense of stability, value, and trust is bolstered by clear organization and modesty throughout. Select use of residential furniture pieces helps the space evoke a sense of home and become part of the company’s messaging around a hybrid approach to work. Plenty of natural light and views to the adjacent waterfront connect the space to its surrounding urban environment.
Reception is a comfortable space styled with soft seating and lighter hues. Welcoming, bright, and modern, it opens invitingly to the nearby café. Here, exposed brick walls, sprawling views of the riverfront, and generous use of glass allow light to pour through the space. Variety of choice in seating, meeting and embedded workspace create an agile environment unified by color and visual access.
An improved boardroom experience was identified as critical to the project success. Fully integrated AV, technology, and flexibility support virtual, hybrid, and in-person meetings for up to 40 individuals. Client-facing materiality, including a dramatic vaulted ceiling and graceful arch window, lend historic character and interest.
The overall effect is balanced and thoughtful, with plenty of private focus space to offset open views and vistas. The space delivers a sense of fresh energy and connection. Warmth, comfort, and accessibility in the design embody the people-centered ideology at the heart of the Farmers of Salem identity.
